Pick-up rules

No Spectators/No Coaching

Pick-up is for the kids. Rarely do players these days have the opportunity to play in an environment where they are playing purely for the fun of it. A supervisor will oversee pick-up but he/she will be the only adult allowed in the facility during pick-up sessions.

Lots of playing time. Lots of ball touches

The maximum number of players per court is 24 players. Two teams play, one team is "on deck" and one team sits after losing. A team may have one sub who is rotated in every 2 minutes. Games are 5-a-side and no team is off for more than 10 minutes. During a 90-minute pick-up session each player touches the ball 100+ times.

Teams are picked randomly

Depending on the age group, the players will either pick their teams or the supervisor will aid the players in forming competitive teams. Either way, pick-up is inclusive and teams will be mixes of age, gender and ability.

Games are competitive

We want the environment to be fun but we also want the players to compete. We play a "Winner Stays On" format to create the competitiveness and give the teams the motivation to stay on the court. One goal wins the game.

No Score?

If there is no score after 5 minutes, then the traditional Paper/Rock/Scissors will be used to determine which team stays on the court.

In addition to improving technical skills and having fun, Pick-Up Futsal helps the players manage the formation of teams, organization of games and implementation of sportsmanship during the 90-minute sessions.
